Driving under the influence can have serious consequences not just for you and the other drivers on the road, but also for innocent pedestrians. The Seattle Police Department responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian around three PM on Friday, February 3rd. It was reported that the driver of a black Hyundai SUV turned onto Rainier Avenue South and there collided with an adult female pedestrian who was using or was very near the crosswalk.
When police arrived at the scene, they brought the driver in for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. She was released pending the results of laboratory investigations. Medics also responded to the scene, and the victim was transferred to Harborview Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries.
These are of course preliminary findings by the first responders and more information will be revealed as the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives continue their investigation into the matter. We can hope that the truth about what happened will be made clear so that other drivers can avoid an accident like this happening on their watch. We also wish the pedestrian involved a speedy and safe recovery. However, you should always avoid dangerous behaviors on the road like driving under the influence or distracted driving.
