Doing any car maintenance on the side of a road is a pretty scary proposition, but is sometimes necessary. Unfortunately, as a Seattle car accident attorney and Vancouver wrongful death lawyer, I have seen plenty of cases where a distracted driving leads to hitting somebody on the side of the road. When this occurs on a freeway or highway, these accidents can oftentimes lead to fatalities. When someone’s attention drifts away temporarily while driving at high speeds, a split second and bad timing is all it takes to hit someone on the side of the road.

Sadly, a case of driver inattentiveness led to the death of a man changing his tire off the side of an I-5 ramp in Vancouver, WA. The 52-year-old man was changing the tire, because his wife had called him for help when her tire went flat on the freeway. As he was replacing the tire, his wife was looking out for cars. Unfortunately as she tried to warn him about this oncoming car, there was no time for the man to get out of the way. Police attribute the accident to the driver not paying attention on the road.

My deepest condolences go out to the family of the man who was killed in this tragic accident. This is clearly a case of wrongful death, and although pursuing justice on his behalf through the legal system will never bring him back, his family will be due a lot in damages.
