We’ve all been warned about the dangers of using a handheld cell phone while driving. As a Seattle wrongful death attorney, Washington car accident lawyer, and the founder of Teens Against Distracted Driving, I’ve certainly seen the proof.

However, recent studies are now suggesting that even hand-free devices are dangerous on the road. According to the Institute for Highway Safety, conversations are the real driving distraction.

They say that the only way to really help prevent auto accidents is by banning all phone use at the wheel.

No driver wants to hear this, but it may help prevent many auto accidents. Studies have shown that at least 80 percent of all auto accidents are caused by distracted and inattentive drivers. So, maybe this is the only answer.

So far, only Maryland has banned all cell phone use while driving.
