A taxi driver who caused a deadly three car crash is now pleading not guilty to vehicular homicide. The car accident occurred at about 6 a.m. on November 18.

Waleligne Afele, 36, was driving south on I-5 when he quickly changed lanes toward the highway 518 exit ramp, hitting a Toyota Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser then hit the curb and flipped over. A third vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was unable to stop and struck the side of the Land Cruiser.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser, David Doer died at the scene of the auto accident. The passenger of the Toyota Camry suffered only minor personal injuries.
Afele later claimed that the Toyota Land Cruiser had abruptly changed lanes causing the 3 car crash. However, the two passengers of the taxi say that Afele cut across a few lanes so he wouldn’t miss the exit to the airport. And yet another witness adds that the taxi driver also hit the ramp curb.

Tuesday morning, Afele pleaded not guilty to the charge of vehicular homicide. He has been sent to the King County jail and his bail is set at $100,000. He is set to appear in court on April 6 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
