Driver Runs Over 9-Year-Old Girl, Flees the Scene
As a Kent auto accident lawyer working at a Seattle personal injury law firm I see victims that have suffered serious personal injuries due to reckless driving every single day, but it is always difficult to hear about a child that was severely injured because of another person’s reckless driving.
Monday afternoon a 9-year-old girl was hit and then ran over by a driver trying to escape from the police. A Seattle Police officer saw the car downtown and realizing that it was stolen made an attempt to pull the vehicle over, but the driver wasn’t giving up that easy. The Seattle Police officer in pursuit followed the car for a few blocks before having to stop the chase due to public safety concerns as there were quite a few pedestrians on the streets at the time. The driver however, showed no regard for the safety of the pedestrians on the street and continued driving erratically, ending up on a sidewalk where he hit the young child before driving through Denny Park to escape. The young girl was taken to Harborview Medical Center where she is now in satisfactory condition, but both of her legs were broken. Soon after, the police found the abandoned SUV a few blocks from the park and have been looking for the driver ever since.
Reckless driving is selfish and doesn’t just endanger the life of the driver; it puts everyone around at risk for sustaining personal injuries or even the wrongful death of a loved one. This driver obviously did not care that they just ran over a 9-year-old girl and broke both of her legs. As a Bellevue personal injury lawyer I find it hard to believe that anyone could be so heartless and I hope that the Seattle Police soon find the person that did this.
