Cell Phone Ban Proposed Nationwide | Seattle Distracted Driving Accident Attorney
As a Seattle distracted driving accident lawyer, I am strongly against the use of cell phones or any other electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle. Using electronic devices while driving causes the driver to take their eyes and their attention away from the road which often times results in devastating traffic accidents. According to King 5 News, the National Transportation Board (NTB) has proposed the nationwide ban of cell phones and other portable electronics among drivers. This ban would include both hands free and hand held devices except in emergency situations. This recommendation would exceed all other state regulations and laws. All five board members of the NTB has agreed due to the increasing number of cell phone related car accidents seen in recent years.
Bans and regulations on cell phone use within a motor vehicle is not new, however, a nationwide ban against any electronic use is. This proposal is in response to a horrific crash that occurred in Missouri last year involving texting while driving that killed two young people and injured thirty-eight additional people. Distracted driving had caused this devastating highway pile up and therefore it is the NTB’s mission to reduce distractions by banning electronics and enforcing that ban throughout the country.
If you or a loved one have been seriously injured in an auto accident due to the negligence of another, then contact an experienced Seattle distracted driving accident attorney to further discuss your options. Using your cell phone, driving while fatigued, or eating while driving is considered distracted driving and it can be a very dangerous force on the road. The health and safety of your family is most important at this time and you may need legal representation to ensure that a dangerous accident that was someone else’s fault does not become a financial concern to your or your family.
