Seat belt safety became a major priority starting in the late 1980’s making it seemingly pointless to mention their necessity- but with over 50% of car crash fatalities occurring because of the failure to use a seat belt the issue is still relevant. In spite of all the efforts, however, there is still 15% of the population that drive without seat belts- resulting in sad and fully preventable Seattle car accidnets like the one below.

Around 4 pm August 9th a Mercury Villager was in a single-car accident heading westbound on I-90. The car carrying 6 people crashed and rolled several times at the offramp near Bandara, just west of Snoqualmie Pass. Police said the car was traveling on the freeway when it crossed over the line separating the freeway from the offramp and crashed. The rolling of the car ejected two passengers out of the vehicle.

The 47-year-old driver was found dead when aid arrived at the scene. Two passengers were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and the three others were rushed to local hospitals. All passengers are reported to be in critical condition from injuries in the Seattle car accident. The five passengers in the vehicle were all in their 20’s and 30’s.

The cause of the car accident is unknown, but police speculate that speed played a factor and the failure to wear proper restraints contributed to the severe injuries of the passengers and death of the driver.
