Despite there being 60% less traffic on the road, 40% of all accidents occur at night. As a Seattle car accident attorney and Everett personal injury lawyer, I have come to understand that although part of the blame for this is on natural conditions at night, a lot of these accidents could be avoided. Along with drunk-driving accidents occurring more often at night, there are many crashes caused by the sheer desire to drive faster. Because traffic is almost non-existent late at night and early in the morning, a lot of people believe that it is acceptable to drive 20-30 mph above the speed limit. The fact of the matter, though, is that driving at such high speeds is dangerous regardless of the amount of cars on the road.

At around 2:30 this morning in Lacey, a 27-year-old man collided head on with a car that had two women and a baby on board. The man, who was speeding before crossing into oncoming traffic, was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident and was thrown throw the windshield of his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car – a 27-year-old woman – was airlifted to Harborview Medical Hospital, where she is expected to survive, despite serious injuries. The two passengers, a 22-year-old woman and a 1-year-old baby girl went to St. Peters hospital as a precaution, but did not suffer any serious injuries.

In a crash like this, that could have been fatal for all involved, I am relieved to hear that three of the four will be alright, but am also sad to hear about the death of the driver in the other vehicle. My condolences go out to everybody involved, and I hope that the injured victims have a speedy recovery.
