It is always sad to hear about a pedestrian being hit by a car in Seattle, but for the first time in months the driver actually stopped to make sure the person he hit was alright. As a Seattle pedestrian accident injury lawyer I know that this summer Washington has been host to a number of hit-and-run accidents that left pedestrians and bikers severely injured and in some tragic cases dead.

Last night a man and his child were critically injured when they were hit trying to cross Broadway at 15th Street. Police have not made it clear yet who was at fault for the accident, but thankfully the driver stopped so that he could be questioned about what happened. The pedestrian, whose name has not yet been released, was carrying his child across the street around 11:30 at night when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle. The father broke most of the fall for the child, who only suffered minor bruising, but the father sustained serious head and leg injuries and had to be rushed to Harborview Medical Center. A cab driver who came upon the scene just moments after the accident stopped when he saw the man lying on the ground and the child screaming next to his father.

Regardless of who is at fault for this tragic accident it is up to both pedestrians and drivers to be responsible when out on the road; especially late at night. Although pedestrians do have the right of way in many instances it is still necessary to exercise a high level of caution when trying to cross the road. As a Seattle personal injury lawyer my thoughts go out to the man and child that were injured, but also to the driver, as no one goes out with the intent of hitting a pedestrian. We all need to be more cautious when we drive down city streets that are likely to have pedestrians and bicyclists.
