Drunk Driving

Drunk driving rears its ugly head again putting innocent lives at stake once more. As a Kent auto accident attorney I am outraged at the thousands of drivers that continue to get into their vehicle and drive while they are intoxicated. My Seattle personal injury law firm helps victims try and get their life back together after they have sustained personal injuries or had to deal with the wrongful death of a loved one at the hands of a drunk driver.

Tuesday night, four people were injured after 36-year-old Margo Briceno crossed the center line while driving eastbound on SR 24 in Yakima and crashed head-on into a 2004 Ford Focus with three people in it. Briceno is suspected to have been intoxicated at the time, although no charges have been made as of today. Both cars involved in the auto accident were totaled and all 4 people sustained personal injuries and were transported to Yakima Regional Medical Center. Currently both of the drivers have been treated and released, but no word yet on the other two victims of Briceno’s reckless driving.

Drinking and driving kills hundreds of people in Washington State every year and we keep turning a blind eye. Although legislation was recently passed to make DUI laws tougher, I don’t think that they are strict enough. Many of the more serious auto accidents that take place are caused by drivers with multiple DUI charges that were not deterred after they received punishment. Now may be the time to think about a 3 strikes you’re out when it comes to drinking and driving.
